Dicas de Inglês B2B: SIBLING

Quando queremos perguntar a uma pessoa se ela tem irmãos ou irmãs, fazemos a seguinte pergunta: “Você tem irmãos?” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Em inglês, diríamos Do you have any brothers? Certo? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Errado! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ brother refere-se apenas a irmão (masculino), assim como sister refere-se apenas a irmã (feminino). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Quando queremos nos referir a “irmão ou irmã”, independentemente do gênero, usamos a palavra sibling. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Então, aquela pergunta no início do post ficaria: Do you have any siblings? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Exemplos: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ - I have four siblings: three brothers and a sister. (Eu tenho quatro irmãos: três irmãos e uma irmã.) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ - The younger children were badly treated by older siblings.
